What's in My Pool Bag?
Heading to the pool?
Before you zip up your bag, make sure you’ve packed all the pool day essentials. Let’s dive into my must-have essentials for a perfect day under the sun.
Pool-Day Essentials Checklist:
Pool Bag – A spacious, water-resistant pool bag is a must-have for any successful pool day (or beach). Look for something large enough to hold all your poolside essentials—we’ll get into those soon. I recommend choosing a plastic or waterproof material so there’s no stress if it gets splashed. Plus, wet swimsuits and damp towels can stay tucked away without soaking through or making a mess.
Pool Towel – I recommend packing 1–2 towels per person for a comfortable and carefree pool day. If your pool has loungers, choose a towel long enough to cover the chair—it makes a big difference. Don’t be afraid to go bold with color or patterns! Most of my pool towels are bright and playful, and honestly, they just make the whole day feel more fun.
SPF – Sunscreen is a non-negotiable pool day essential. Protecting your skin from sun damage is key, especially if you burn easily like I do. I recommend using an SPF 50+ and choosing separate sunscreens for your face and body. Many traditional formulas can clog pores or cause breakouts— sigh been there. I’ve been using the Tatcha Silk Sunscreen for about a year now, and it’s been a total game-changer for my sensitive skin.
Sunglasses – Living in Florida, sunglasses are part of my daily uniform. While I don’t have a pair just for the pool, here’s my advice: bring affordable sunglasses for pool days or beach outings. Save your designer shades for brunch or dressier occasions. Between the water, sunscreen, and the chance of misplacing them, it’s just not worth the risk!
Little Bag – If your pool or beach bag is like mine, it probably doesn’t have any pockets. That means things like keys, AirPods, or lip balm tend to sink to the bottom sometimes getting damp or temporarily “lost.” A small pouch or zip bag is the perfect fix. It keeps your essentials safe, dry, and easy to find. Shoutout to Ipsy—years later, I’m still using their cute little makeup bags for stuff like this!
Snacks – Pool day snacks are a must. While I usually stash fresh fruit in a cooler, I always keep a few easy options right in my pool bag. Peelable mandarins are a favorite—no mess, super refreshing—and I always bring something with a little crunch. Lately, I’ve been loving the Great Value Flat Pretzels from Walmart. Maybe it’s just me, but after a dip in the pool, I’m ALWAYS reaching for a snack.
Body Mist or Perfume – Let’s be real: pool days mean sunshine, swimming, and… sweating. It happens! That’s why I always keep a refreshing body mist in my bag. My go-to is Sol de Janeiro Brazilian Crush Cheirosa 87 it smells like summer in a bottle and instantly makes me feel fresh. I keep it in pool bag so I can reapply as needed throughout the day.
Insulated Tumbler – Okay, this doesn’t go in my pool bag, but it’s always by my side. A large, insulated tumbler filled with ice-cold water is a must when you’re out in the sun. Whether you’re lounging, swimming, or just soaking it all in, don’t forget to stay hydrated—it makes all the difference. Depending on your tumbler type, you might even be able to squeeze it into your bag!
Cooler - I’ve owned just about every type of cooler out there — wheeled, hard-sided, soft-sided, you name it. For beach days, I usually reach for something on wheels to make the trek across the sand easier. But when it comes to pool days, I’ve found my new favorite: the FOAM Cooler. Here’s why I’m obsessed:
It’s ultra-lightweight - so no more lugging a heavy cooler.
It’s super durable - soft-sided but tough enough to handle all the action.
And the best part (seriously): it floats -Yes, floats! Which means your drinks and snacks can chill right next to youin the pool. Total game changer.
