Homemade Dog Food with Ground Beef:

Easy & Nutritious Recipe for Your Pup

Thinking about switching your dog to homemade food but unsure where to start? This slow cooker ground beef recipe is a go-to in my kitchen for my 5 year old blue heeler mix. She loves it and surprisingly, it’s even slowed down her speed eating. What used to be a 60-second scarf-down now takes her a full five minutes because she’s busy licking every last bit from her bowl. Not a crumb left behind. 😂

Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon coconut oil

  • 3 lbs ground beef

  • 2 medium to large sweet potatoes, finely chopped

  • 2 carrots, finely chopped

  • 2 cups dried chickpeas (soaked overnight)

  • 3 cups bone broth (homemade or store-bought, either way make sure it’s dog-safe)

  • ~2 cups green beans, chopped

  • ~2 handfuls fresh spinach, chopped

Instructions

  1. Wash and finely chop the sweet potatoes, carrots, green beans, and spinach. Set each aside in separate bowls.

  2. Break out the slow cooker. As soon as I pull mine out, my blue heeler Scarlett knows something delicious is coming.

  3. Add about 1 teaspoon of coconut oil to the bottom of your slow cooker. This prevents sticking and adds a bit of healthy fat to the mix.

  4. Toss in the ground beef, chopped sweet potatoes, carrots, soaked chickpeas, and bone broth. Give everything a good stir to combine.

  5. Set your slow cooker to low for 6 hours. You can relax and let it do its thing!

  6. Once the 6 hours are up, stir in the chopped green beans and spinach. Let it cook for an additional 30 minutes.

  7. After it’s done, allow the food to cool slightly. Then portion it into airtight containers and store in the fridge. Serve when ready and watch your pup enjoy every last bite.
