How to Build a Snack Board

Has your mother ever called you up and said, darling I’m 5 minutes away with grandma? Nothing like a surprise visit to have you raiding your pantry and throwing together a quick snack board. This isn’t a recipe per se, but more so a guide to show you how simple snack boards can be! A little bit of sweet and savory goodness.

Sweet:

  • Dried Dates

  • Dried Mango

  • Purple Grapes

  • Choreg (For those of you who don’t know what this is, it’s Armenian Easter bread. Is it Easter? No, do I make it year round? Heck Yes)

  • Chocolate Wafer Cookies

  • A mix of biscuits (cocoa & walnut)

Savory:

  • Mixed Roasted & Salted Nuts

  • Party Snack Mix

What’s on my Snack Board:

How to Assemble:

  1. Wash your grapes thoroughly and set them aside.

  2. Slice your choreg into thin even pieces and set aside.

  3. Grab a small bowl and fill it with your party snack mix. Place the bowl directly in the center of your tray or board.

  4. Before arrange your snacks, decide where everything will go. To recreate my layout, imagine your board is a clock face, with the tray handles acting as your “clock hands” pointing towards 12:00 + 6:00.

  5. 12:00 - Start by placing your biscuits along the top of the board. Layer each piece slightly over the next and angle them to follow the curve of the board.

  6. 2:00-3:00 - Arrange your chocolate wafer cookies in a triangle shaped cluster. Repeat the same placement between 8:00-8:30.

  7. 3:00-4:00 - Add a cluster of grapes along the outer edge. Repeat between 9:00-10:00.

  8. 4:00-5:00 - Fan out your slices chord, layering each piece slightly over the next at an angle. Repeat the same pattern between 10:00-11:00.

  9. 5:30-6:30 - Spread out your dried mango slices to create a warm, golden section. Repeat again between 11:30-12:00.

  10. 6:40-8:00 - Fill this section with your dried dates, creating a base along the bottom of the board.

  11. Around the center bowl, scatter your mixed nuts to fill in any gaps and add texture.

Typically I like to include a dip or spread into the mix, but honestly there wasn’t time. So I grabbed what I could from my pantry and paired it with some Turkish coffee. All in all, it’s the moments that we spend together and putting together a snack board just gives you a little something to nibble on along the way. To be honest, over the years they have been by go to when hosting.
